- Use a cinnamon stick as a stirrer in hot cocoa. During winter, prepare hot cocoa with marshmallows and milk and use a cinnamon stick as a stirrer. After stirring for a while, the stick will start to disintegrate, adding a pleasant cinnamon taste to your drink.
- Grind cinnamon sticks for apple pie. Fresh cinnamon sticks can add a spicy flavour to a classic apple pie. Place three whole cinnamon sticks into your coffee grinder and pulse them until they are finely ground. Measure out the cinnamon according to your recipe’s instructions and mix it with your other ingredients. Once the pie is done, add vanilla ice cream and sprinkle the remaining ground cinnamon on top.
- Make homemade cinnamon tea. You can make tea simply with hot water and cinnamon sticks. In a small saucepan, add one cinnamon stick to one cup of water and bring it to a boil. Let the mixture simmer for fifteen minutes, then remove the remains of the stick and pour the tea through a strainer to catch any large chunks of cinnamon. Drink hot and add lemon, milk, or cream as desired.
- Add a cinnamon stick to your phở broth. Cinnamon is a key ingredient in many savoury Asian dishes, including phở. Add a cinnamon stick to your broth while cooking to flavour it. Once the broth is ready, remove the stick and other added herbs (such as bay leaves or thyme) before serving.
- Mix a cinnamon stick with basmati rice. If you are making a curry or a sweeter Persian rice dish with raisins or dried cherries, add a cinnamon stick to your pot of rice for a warm, woody flavour.
- Garnish your hot toddy with a cinnamon stick. During fall or winter, make this alcoholic beverage and add a cinnamon stick as a seasonal garnish. The cinnamon stick will slightly flavour this whiskey-infused drink.
